About a month ago Microsoft basically announced that it would support cross network play between anyone who was willing to allow it. Since then, it has been up in the air as to whether or not Sony would support such relations with Microsoft. Here’s the latest scoop on the status of cross platform play.
Now initially Sony was quite vague on its response to Microsoft’s invitation and only stated that they were, “Happy to have the conversation with any developers who were interested in cross platform play.” Now to me that just seemed like Sony’s way to not actually saying anything on the issue without completely ignoring Microsoft at the same time. However, with the recent announcement of the cross platform comparability of Eve: Valkyrie it seems that Sony is in fact, entirely serious about having open conversations about cross platform play with developers. Yes, you heard me right. Rejoice VR gamers because you will in fact be able to play with any Valkyrie players who have either an Oculus Rift, Vive, or Playstation VR!
With this news it seems that Sony is entirely honest about the conversation being between Microsoft and whatever developing company wants to allow for cross platform/cross network play on their games. This could mean that we could see some sort of cross network play between Destiny players, or Call of Duty players or maybe even cross network play with some Nintendo NX players should that system have titles featured on any of Microsoft’s systems or Sony’s systems. Those options are currently the responsibility of the developing companies to contact the console producers and whether or not they can come to some sort of deal with the console producing companies. But hey, if this news about Eve: Valkyrie is any sign of whats to come then we definitely have hope of finally being able to play with ALL of our real life friends regardless of who owns what console and without having to drop tons of money on a console we may only actually play one game on. But maybe I’m just too optimistic.
