We were due for a little bit more information from CBS about the new Star Trek series, and we finally got it today. Check out what we know after the jump.
So the series is called Star Trek: Discovery and based on the ship design will take place in the period between Enterprise and The Original Series. Don’t believe me, check out the registry numbers (NCC-1031). It possible that this may even be set in the prime universe, but it’s too early to say. As SDCC continues, and with Trek Con in Las Vegas coming up, we should hopefully learn soon. UPDATED: Star Trek producer Bryan Fuller announced at Comic Con that the show is set to cover the adventures of the U.S.S. Discovery and will be set in the prime universe.
According to one of our readers, and evident from the designs, this ship was designed based off the original Ralph McQuarrie design for the refit Enterprise for Star Trek: Planet of the Titans.
UPDATED: Fans worried about the CGI shouldn’t fret. Confirmed after the panel by executive producer Heather Kadin, the ship design is not final and the video shown is just a rough cut promo.
I’m not gonna lie, I’m not pleased with the design. It looks clunky and totally unsexy, but at this point I’ll take what I can get. It’s Star Trek, and we need more of that. Check out the video here and some screen grabs below.

Planet of the Titans. Not Phase II.
You are correct! Fixing it now. I count myself a trekkie, but even this was outside my knowledge. My fault for believing Facebook and Wikipedia.
