Nestled at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, just north of Denver, is the unique city of Boulder. If you haven’t had the chance to go to Boulder then you certainly need to put it on your list. But if you have and you consider yourself a nerd of any kind, you might not immediately think of it as a town with much to offer in that respect. However I was able to find a few gems that you can check out if you find yourself hanging out in the mountains.
Time Warp Comics and Cards
One of the better shops that I’ve been to on my travels, Time Warp Comics and Cards has a phenomenal setup that is easy to navigate and fun to explore. They have a large selection of new and classic comics and graphic novels as well as all of the popular table top and card games. If POP! figures are your thing, this shop has an enormous selection that is sure to help build your collection (In fact I grabbed a Dagobah Yoda for myself). They have some really cool memorabilia to browse through as well as some unique t-shirts and posters. Like many shops are doing these days, Time Warp offers gaming nights at the location for those in the area that want to get out of the craziness of the college town that is Boulder. There is a Friday Night Magic event each week for the MTG fans out there as well as Wednesday HEROCLIX tournaments. They also have Facebook pages specifically for HEROCLIX and X-Wing players so those would be great to check out to see any updates about those games. If you happen to visit their website, go to the link for their eBay store and see if there’s anything you’ve been looking for and haven’t found anywhere in your area. Overall I really liked this store. They had it organized very well and I’ll 100% go back if I’m ever in the area again.

Game Force Boulder
If video games are your thing, then you have to go to Game Force. No matter if you’re an avid player of the new gaming systems like Xbox One and PlayStation 4 or into the classic NES and Sega, Game Force has all games for all consoles. They also have a nice selection of games for the handhelds like DS and PSP as well as many others. With the uptick in the novelty of the classic games for NES, PlayStation and Sega Genesis, this store is perfect to find that old school game you’ve been searching for to take you back and feel nostalgic again. And a great touch that Game Force offers is that they also sell DVDs for movies and Anime as well as collectibles, strategy guides, and a ton more. Its definitely worth a look at Game Force because you never know what you’re going to find!

Press Play Bar
Staying with the video game theme but adding the element of nightlife to the equation, Press Play Bar is a place you can hop on the trend of the “vintage video game bar.” A really fun place on Pearl St. in Boulder, Press Play is a perfect stop along your nerd quest if you want to enjoy a game of pinball, dominate some skeeball (like I like to do), or rip up a little Pac Man and have some delicious adult beverages at the same time. Press Play is popular spot in the city where you can find an eclectic mix of people enjoying the vast array of games they have to offer. On Wednesdays they have tournaments for pinball, skeeball and more (plus $3.50 draft beers which is pretty enticing without the fun games.) One of the things I found that would be most fun is on Thursdays when they do Rock, Paper, Beer where you challenge a bartender to the game and get a free beer if you beat them! So definitely swing by Press Play Bar if you’re looking for a fun place to nerd out and socialize in Boulder.

While the options aren’t huge in Boulder, there still are some fun places to check out in the nerding community. Plus the University of Colorado is located here so there are bound to be random, nerd events that pop up each week there. So when in Boulder, check out these 3 locations and hopefully you can find some more adventures to let us know about!
So long for now! I’ll see you next time from a big city in the Midwest!
