Reminder: if you’re on the Tigh Maneuver, these are the three episodes you should be watching this week!!
Kobol’s Last Gleaming Part 1 & 2
Well, we are at that precious stage where spoiler control has to be in full effect. I tried my best in the previous recaps (as best I could) to keep details as poignant and spoiler free as possible. But honestly if I say too much in this one, you will be mad at me, I’ll be mad at myself, it’ll be mass hysteria and no one wants that.
That said, remember those religious overtones that I said are critical to understanding the end of the series? Keep your eyes open. And these final two episodes do a great job tying together plenty of threads together while also setting up season two to start off with plenty of intrigue and directions to explore.
Scattered
Like the episode before, I can’t say too much until you’ve watched it, but we get some cool flashbacks to some of Adama and Tigh’s first interactions before Adama hires Tigh as his XO. These type of flashbacks, like Starbuck’s guilt over Zak Adama, are peppered in more strategically throughout the series and this is one of my favorite ones. Sure, we learned a lot about Tigh in the first season, but this episode helps us understand his dynamic with Adama in a new way.
The second season also marks a few specific changes:
- The fleet population tracker becomes a staple of the show intro, so you always get a clear shot and update of how many people are in the fleet. It was a very irregular piece component of season one, but they get a better handle on it going forward.
- We learn who the third in command is on the ship: they don’t sit in the CIC, instead they are responsible for handling flight operations (e.g. vipers and raptors launching). It can be a subtle detail to catch in this episode. I’ll point out more in the episode recap.
- This is one of the first times we can start marking flashbacks with people’s facial hair. Trust me, that little detail will help you later…
*This is technically a two-part episode, but I figured you would be more upset if I had broken up Kobol Parts 1 & 2. So no harm if you choose to jump right into episode two of this season, but I’m not covering it until next week.
