This year, I really wanted to showcase my Top 5 favorite TV seasons of the year. I don’t usually do this but this year I thought why not? We are in such a wonderful place in television currently, especially with movie-quality series now coming to the small screen; it is quite an exciting time! We get to dive deep into the characters and the world of these stories and it leaves me feeling more fulfilled by the end of a season/series.
5. Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power (Season 2)
If you fell off during the first season, I completely understand. The first season was a bit of slog and I remember kind of dreading a new episode each week, however there was enough that I was interested in and wanted to keep going. I am so happy I stuck with it because season 2 is such an improvement over the first season. It still isn’t perfect, but I was excited each week as a new episode was released. I felt more invested in the journey of each character and what their part is in this series. I truly cannot wait to return, but I hope the rest of the series can maintain the greatness of season 2.
EDITOR’S NOTE: There is a gaslighting storyline interwoven through most of the episodes that is crucial to important occurrences in the series as a whole.
4. Fallout (Season 1)
This was my first introduction to the world of Fallout. I haven’t played the games nor knew the story, but the premise of this was very intriguing. I loved the mystery and politics of the vault world, compared to then seeing how the surface of Earth evolved after nuclear fallout. This alternate universe is very interesting and the first season delivered a ton of mystery and excitement, so I cannot wait to see where this goes next.
3. Cobra Kai (Season 6 – Part 2)
This show is absolutely ridiculous, and I love every second of it! If these people talked instead of always resorting to fighting or getting even, so much more would be accomplished! But then again … the escalation to fighting is what makes Cobra Kai the show that it is. Season 6 released Part 1 earlier in 2024 as well, but everything was so kumbaya in those first 5 episodes that it kinda made the show a bit boring. November 2024 then released part 2 of season 6 (episodes 6-10) and this brought everything I love about Cobra Kai back. You have tension that builds from these characters, which again could all easily be solved by talking, but these episodes are where they explode in such a way that makes this show amazing. I am so bummed that we only have 5 episodes left of this series, but I cannot wait to see how it ends.
2. Squid Game (Season 2)
This show is so addicting. Season 1 grabbed me and did not let go, and I hated to get to the end of season 2 because all I want to do is continue this show. And if you have not started watching season 2 and plan to, maybe wait until season 3 because I have seen a lot of reviews upset with where season 2 ends. Personally, it made absolute sense where it ends because all it did was leave me with wanting more. Seeing Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) back and the toll these games put on him as well as his determination to find the Front Man to end the games drove the first two episodes. But also, all the mystery of the game is still there: who is running it now? And what hope does Gi-hun have to complete his mission? With all the mystery that is involved in this, I could not look away and became completely invested again.
1. Avatar: The Last Airbender (Season 1)
I love the cartoon and nothing can touch it, but I also love this adaption so much. I am so impressed with this series, and it finally brought a worthy version of live-action in such an amazing way. Going into this I heard a lot of people were disappointed with how much was left out of the season. After watching it, I was more impressed with how much they were able to include in this adaptation and how they combined two or more episodes of the cartoon into one episode of the live-action. Yes, some things were left out, but they really kept in everything that was important, and that’s what mattered. Something that I felt was an improvement over the cartoon is it is darker, and that really helps elevate the characters and the effect the Fire Nation has on their world. I really fell back in love with this world and cannot wait for the next two seasons, as I hope they keep up with what they’re doing.
Thank you for joining me again, I hope if you haven’t started any of these, I have at least piqued your curiosity on giving them a try. I hope you all have a wonderful 2025 and I cannot wait to see what worlds and adventures await!
